Don’t Throw Me in that Brier Patch!

IMG_3530

I am worried right now. Worried for loved ones and for people I have never met.

We all worry for our brave healthcare workers, the grocery store employees and our mothers. Not to mention the worry over finances.

But during this time of isolation and fear there is a silver lining: a time to be quite, a time to observe and importantly a time to create.

With the lessening of obligations comes a heightening of focus.

What are you dreaming about? What can you bring into existence over then next month or so?

My life has only changed a smidge because I always work alone, but there is quietness in the air that wasn’t there before.

I would love to say that I’m busy sewing masks or doing some other tangibly useful thing. No, I have begun a series that is the antithesis of social distancing. Continuing my motif on personified produce, I am now working up a series about fruity familiarity. Paired pears and intertwined peels celebrate love, and intimacy.

Here are some of the paintings I have just begun.

Back during our first Gulf War, I was painting cows: Funny cows. And I was horrified that people were dying out there and I was painting silly cows. Then I realized that there was a need and a place for what I did. That something light and fun was important.

And so it goes again. I am offering up something warm and light and full of love. That is my contribution. It’s what I do best. I don’t even know how to operate my sewing machine.
